Weekend criterias for physiotherapy referral in acute ortho services

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi,

I am trying to determine criterias that patients need to fit in order to be elligible for physiotherapy intervention over the weekend on acute ortho wards. Anyone has any recommendations?

    Thank you

Re: Weekend criterias for physiotherapy referral in acute ortho services

We treat Total Hip Arthroplasties and Total Knee Arthroplasties on our ortho ward and we have a provincial protocol that we follow (exercises and mobilisation 2x/day). If the person has their surgery on the Friday, they still get the 2x/day treatment over the weekend. Therefore they're deemed higher priority.
New assessments for crutch-walkers are also high priority for PT intervention on the weekend. Especially if it means they can be discharged home the day after they get an ORIF of their ankle.
