    osteochondritis dissecans - Left Knee.

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hello all, completely new here.

I am currently 16, i am in my first year of college, and i was diagnosed of osteochondritis dissecans in Year 9, so we are talking about 3, nearly 4 years ago. I had Arthroscopic surgery, where i had two holes drilled either side of my left knee.

My story how it started, in year 5, 6 and 7, i was a good runner, i ran for long time, and my school teacher saw i had quite a natural ability for running, so i started running for school, becoming better and better, until i finally found myself running for my country Cumbria. Then in year 7, i ran for the North of England for a while, my knee was all fine throughout this UNTIL i started skateboading, i did this for around 1 and a bit years until i stopped and finally started getting pains in my knee and was dignosed with osteochondritis dissecans. And now to present day. I have never been able to run properly after that, but i never fancied getting back into running so i just lived with it.

But now i am 16, i really want to join the RM, Royal Marines, in which i need to be very fit as well as a good runner. The thing is, my knee is still rather weak, and during my rest period for my left leg, hypertrophy occurred, in which i have a lot more muscle on my right leg.

I am going to see the guy who did my op on the 15th Nov, to ask more about my knee. My point is, it's still sore, and i would love to be able to run back on it. Is this normal with all people who developed osteochondritis dissecans? That it hurts all the time afterwards?

Is there any exercises i can do to strengthen it? Is there a chance my knee could be back to how it was?

    Thanks, Jack.

P.S Oh and also, i am flat footed, but i have special in soles for my feet, which help align my knee with my ankles, but that never affected my running.

Re: osteochondritis dissecans - Left Knee.

Ye that's what i am trying to do so far.

Well don't think i have it anymore, is it something you have forever or does the operation rid of it?

And it is in my left knee cap.

The Help is very much appreciated.
