I have just been told I have CRPS after a tib and fib fracture (which happened 14 months ago) - my bone was repaired using an external fixator which worked well, however my ankle joint is completely unmoveable/ no dorsi flexion whatsoever - is this normal after this type of fracture, I am being treated with Guanithidine blocks for the CRPS which kills the pain, but the lack of movement is so frustrating after such a long time. Is there anything else out there that I can try to treat this, I am attending both Physio and Hydrotherapy which are helping to build up muscle but don't seem to make any difference to the lack of movement .... any ideas on what i could try next? Is it worthwhile to request an MRI scan to check for excessive scar tissue/soft tissue?

Hi,
I broke my fib and ankle back in jan of this yr. I had verys tiff and swollen ankle when I came out of the cast. I too have CRPS but only a mild case thank god! Have u tried the hot and cold treatments I found it really helped ease the pain and gave me some movement of the joint back. Basically I was told by my surgeon to soak ankle in washing up bowl with muscle soak salts - radox do them - in hot water as hot as u canstand leave it there for approx 30 mins keep topping up with warm water whilst soaking foot try bouncing it up and down as water helps. Then after 30 mins take out and apply ice foe 30 mins do this every 2-3 hrs it really did help. Another thing i have found fab is deep heat rubbed into ankle joint, I use it every day or nurofen heat pads stuck onto ankle really works as well. I have mine massaged by a sports therapist once a week as well to help break down scar tissue.. Hope this helps good luck
I am having hydro therapy over next few weeks to try and get more movement back in mine as I still walk with a bad limp due to ankle not bending
