    Brief Medical History Overview

    Walking after bimal fracture

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Hi everyone, I'm recovering from a bimalleolar fracture with interosseous membrane tear and significant soft tissue damage (I broke this while playing rugby). Immediately following my injury I went under surgery - the surgeon inserted a plate and pins into my ankle, along with a syndesmotic (sic?) screw to help stabilize the fracture. I was non-weight bearing for a little over 8 weeks, which was when I had a second surgery to remove the syndesmotic screw. My orthopaedist told me I could put "as much weight I can tolerate" onto this foot now, so I'm re-learning how to walk with a moonboot on. My problem is that, after two months on crutches, I'm having a hard time learning to walk again. Is there any exercise or techniques I could practice to make my learning any easier? Any help would be appreciated

    Re: Walking after bimal fracture

    Aircast Airselect Short Boot
I have treated a guy with the same kind of injury and ha did lots and lots of physio and still took about a year to restore his flexability and strength. Sometimes it depends on how much the boney surfaces were damaged.

Keep up with walking and get plenty of help with the correct exercise prescription.

    GOod luck!
