rotator cuff

I have been suffering from a rotator cuff injury (diagnosed as the supraspinatus) for the last 5 months. For the first 3 months after the injury, thinking it was just a pulled muscle, i continued to train, then as the pain became an issue i sought medical assistance.

Prescribed ibruprofen, i have continued to take the medication and do the exercises that the doctor gave me to do. Mobility has improved, however certain movement causes extreem pain and loss of use in my arm for short periods.

I have now received an appointment for a cortisone injection at the end of the month.

My questions are;
1. do cortisone injections work?
2. how soon will i feel the benefit if it does?
3. how long before the affected area heals, (i haven't trained for 2 months, too painful)
4. will it totally heal?
5. what do i do if it doesn't work??????

Hi, what training did you continue to do?

What exercises were presribed exactly, and by whom? And you continued to do certain movements that caused 'extreme' pain?

Cortisone injections may be affective in certain cases. Like all treatment it is not 100% certain that it will work for You.
Healing will not be 100%, a rehabilitation program will still be prescribed.

I continued training in mixed martial arts albeit light training as i said i thought it was a pulled muscle and would pass. However when doing pad work (holding the pads) i had to pass this job to someone else as it became too painful.
The doctor gave me a light exercise program to do to increase mobility in my shoulder; shrugging my shoulders, circling back and forward, arm against the wall pushing off with the back of the hand, etc. all exercises i had researched on the net for this type of injury, mobility has increased but not sufficiently to even consider starting training again.
I only hope that the injection will work
