Hi,

I'm 23 and I dislocated my left shoulder (anterior dislocation) for the first time last Monday (8th Feb), I have a snowboarding holiday on March the 6th (just less than 3 weeks from today).

I saw the doctor today (not sure how good he was!) and he said the recovery time for this injury is 6 weeks (so pretty much said i shouldnt go on the hol), he also said i could do things to strengthen the muscles but this probably wouldn't prevent another dislocation happening. He also said that if i do dislocate it again its likley i'll need surgery. He's put me forward for physio treatment but the waiting list is 4-6 weeks - which is after my hol.

I just found this stability brace (£180) online and it is apparently used by pro ski teams to stabilize dislocated shoulders, see this link (copy and paste this donjoy.com/images/products/pdfs/sawa_brochure.pdf
would this prevent dislocating it again?

My dilema is should i go snowboarding on my expensive 1 week holiday? I think i may have to as i'm not sure i can get my money back - but then maybe i shouldnt do any snowboarding - i usually do tricks etc so probably not recommended to do any of them encase i fall. Also any links to exercises i can would be a great help.

Many thanks,
Julian~
