Please help, I have been suffering for years

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hello,

I have had an affliction in my middle left forearm for about 6 years now. I am looking to join the police very soon so i would love to get it fixed.

OK, i'll try my best to describe it. it feels like a mass of muscle, almost the size of a pea but this can vary. If agitated it will get bigger and more painful. direct contact say a punch is extremely painful. It seems to move back and forth when i move my hand (maybe something to do with the tendons)

To be honest, over the years i have got used to the pain. I still climb and go to the gym. It does not affect these activities. I would love to get it fixed though or at least a bit better.

    Thanks

    Dan
I started feeling pain with it when i was using the computer for hours a day and playing lots of acoustic guitar.

Hey there! I just read your message. I wanted to ask, have you seen a doctor, preferably a surgeon about your medical problem? It's really hard to say what it is without investigating it. Maybe an Wikipedia reference-linkMRI and the examination form a specialist would help. It could be a cyst...which is not a big deal. Is it mobile if you try to move it, I mean if you place your fingers on it and try to rub it? In this 6 years hasn't it gone away at all ? Hmmm, I don't think it's anything serious really, maybe it's a benign formation, cyst etc. But I seriously recommend you get an MRI, consult and maybe run some blood test and check for infection. Hope it helps. Let me know how it goes.
    All the best,
    Catalina

    Thanks for your reply Catalina,

I went to the doctors and they said it is most likely a ganglion. Should be able to remove it with a small surgical procedure.

    Thanks

    Dan

Hi Dantheman, doesn't sound like a ganglion to me. Your comment about the guitar is rather interesting. Is the left the cord playing hand? If so the extensor muscles in the forearm are used a lot when playing guitar. And having someone take a look at the way you are playing may help with that.

I'd be getting the neck and whole upper limb checked to see if there is any observable weakness that could be causing abnormal fatigue in those muscles. One needs to look for the root cause of your issue here. The computer is probably more a secondary activity that is provoking the symptoms.

A good physio / osteo / chiro should be able to make an assessment and advice plan for you in one visit. I'd suggest it and do let us know if you do that and what they found or suggested. Best of luck p.s. Having been the City Of London Police fitness advisor and occy health PT I would not think that this issue should prevent you joining the force
