Today I was tapping my heal on a hard floor. My knee was extended halfway between 90 degrees and full extension when I was tapping my heal. I felt a weird sensation, not pain, but just an odd feeling in the base of my knee where the patella tendon ends. I've never injured this knee before and am an active individual playing sports 2x a week and lifting on other days. I haven't had any problems doing those activities such as full ROM squats and other exercises. Following the weird feeling my knee felt stiff and I was reluctant to put weight on it when standing up however I think this may just be a mental thing because of the slight stiffness. I'm currently experiencing tightness in the back of my knee where the hamstring connects and slight tightness around the base of the tendon. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

Alright thanks, I was worried I could have pinched my meniscus or something. It felt alright today after I woke up but a little pain came back on the outside part of the knee next to the tendon. Should I skip out on soccer this Monday?
Do you have swelling? Swelling will definitely cause issues, such as stiffness.
It's difficult to tell what may be going on with you. Is range affected? Strength? Weakness? Where in the tendon are you feeling pain, you say base, but not sure exactly where you are meaning.
Also, back of knee pain, could be due to a number of reasons, such as tight hamstrings or calves, also tight popliteus, issue with baker's cyst.
I've been working with a lot of soccer players lately getting ready for the season. You would do yourself good service by heading in to see a physio.
Sometimes issues such as laxity of ligaments in ankles and knees can be causing issues with ankles and knees. And please note, often ankle laxity causes knee issues, so it's not just ankle/ankle, knee/knee. Simple bracing can make a huge difference.
There is no noticeable swelling. I slept on it funny a few days ago after it being fine for a week and it hurt for a bit but I walked it off. I did a lower body workout of front squat, medicine ball squats, and kettelbell swings on wednesday, there was no real pain when walking but after the workout if I put a lot of presure on it there would be some along/under the tendon. Wednesday night it felt uncomfortable sleeping on my side. I played soccer Thursday (4/5/2012) and there was no pain or swelling but but it still feels weird if I try to cut on it or change direction when pushing off my left leg. Its kinda freaking me out cause it feels weird but there is no pain sharp pain or anything. If I had injured any ligaments (ACL or PCL) there would definitely be swelling and pain correct? I'm just worried I could have knocked something out of alignment. Any thoughts?
