Hello! I'm Phillipp and I'm 16 years old.
I was submitted to scaphoid surgery at 3rd January (this year). It was used a Herbert's Screw and no graft. It's almost healed, its been two months and I'm (probably) taking my cast out in the 4th March.
I was wondering, how much time of physio can I expect, considering my age, and how much time will it take for me to get back to Judo practice.
Thanks and sorry for my English,
Flooper

Hi Phillipp, although you cast will be coming off after two months, the bone will still be healing [bone remodelling/ strengthening] for at least one year. During the first year the risk of re-injury is high; particularly, since you mentioned Judo practice. Please do not return to Judo, or any activities that could involve full wrist extension, flexion, or punching activities with an open or closed fist; for a full year. Let your scaphoid heal properly with lighter exercises as directed your physiotherapist or hand specialist, during the first year. If you re-fracture your scaphoid, then subsequent scaphoid reconstruction is usually less successful; and resultant surgery would most likely involve partial wrist fusion. All the best with you recovery.
