Private Practice Onward Referral

Hi

Im a recently qualified physio and like many others in my position I've not been able to get a job. I've started seeing clients at home privately and I just have a couple of questions. As I am the first point of contact for many, obviously if I feel I cant help someone or feel there are other underlying issues beyond my expertise, then I would need to refer them on.

Is there a procedure therapists in private practice should follow regarding onward referrals to the NHS?

Eg. I have a client at the moment with a suspected meniscal tear - possible surgery required, what do I do? Write a letter to GP? Or just send the patient to their GP?

Hi there

Personally I would write a letter to their GP detailing what your findings are and the treatments you have completed along with what your recommendations were. This then looks professional and of course the fact that your patient has already seen you would obviously (i would hope!!) give weighting to any onward referrals.
