    Smelling salts in football

HI I would like to hear your thoughts on smelling salts within sport, but especially in football. Some of the players at the club where I work have asked for them. But after reading up on them I feel can do more harm than good as they can effect the neuro system and the FA recommend against their use.

    Re: Smelling salts in football

I was not aware that smelling salts had any adverse effect. Taking that into consideration, I am thinking that it may not be such a great idea to use them, unless it will in some way prevent further harm to an individual, which I seriously doubt. If they have no benefit in preventing serious harm to a individual, then they definitely should not be used, especially not in children's sport programs.

    Taping
I have also heard bad things about smelling salts but never seen any hard evidence to back it up. I have heard comments such as it can mask the drowsiness assosciated with head injuries etc. I get alot of rugby players requesting them but until I can find a good reason for using it I won't have them in my kit bag.
