    Question Problem with scapula positioning

Hello to everyone on this community. I will try to be short and precise.

    1. From last 6 months probably because strength training with inadequate focus on structural balance i developed scapula snapping syndrome (only when put my hand on hip and move my shoulder back i feel this painful snapping).

    2. Have a problem with winging scapula, especially when i retract and depress it. I was doing push ups plus a lot and feel much improvement in terms of Range of motion but winging is still there.

    3. Also feel tingling in my left upper/midd shoulder when depress scapula and some clicking and crackling in left upper traps when i shrug it down??

    Some pictures:

Retraction with depression (tingling in left shoulder)

Would be grateful if some expert see this photos and noticed me if is there a bad positioning of scapula and which muscle have not been stabilize scapula

Thanks for any help in advance, i will respond for any necessary information.

    Re: Problem with scapula positioning

    Hi there,

Just from looking at your pictures your scapula's are winged. I think some serratus anterior and lower trapezius exercises would be quite helpful to help hold that scapula against the thoracic cage. Your scapula look slightly abducted so some rows using a resistant band can help with that to get proper retraction happening. The pain is no doubt connected to the scapula position and function during movement. I'm sure one of the physio's on here will be able to offer better advice, however I think it may be beneficial to get it assessed by a physio.

    Re: Problem with scapula positioning

Try to stretch the levator scapulae and the thoracic minor. Strengthening exercices for the rhomboids major and minor and the serratus posterior inferior.

You must consider visiting a physical therapist. I am sure the exercises recommended by him will help in faster recovery.
