    Job Prospects in Canada

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
Hi, I just have a few questions as we are looking at shifting to Canada to join my husbands family who are all living there (Toronto). Here's a bit about my experience... I have done a 2 year hospital rotation in NZ; worked for 1 year as a senior in inpatient rehabilitation in NZ (including 3 months as acting section head with aprox 15 physios and assistants reporting to me); 1 years experience working in 2 private clinics in Dubai; 1 years experience working in Vocational Rehab in NZ and I have recently started my own mobile physiotherapy business. I also have a post graduate diploma in rehabilitation.

    1) What are my prospects of getting a job in inpatient rehabilitation in or near Toronto, are there many jobs available?
    2) How easy is it to set up a business in Canada? Whats the demand like for private physio clinics?
    3) How long does it take roughly from applying to get education recognised to being registered to practice in Canada?
    4) Is it common for job offers to be given to physios overseas?

I really appreciate any feedback, thank you.

    Hi,

You first need to get through the two tough exams and credentialing. Go to the Canadian Alliance Web site and check out the details. There seems to be plenty of jobs about but the exams are very tough. This can be a very slow process, I would suggest you try to pass the first exam before you come here as you can't work as a physio until you have passed the first one. I am two years in, the process and have just sat my exam for the second time. I am from the UK, but living here, have two degrees one in Physiotherapy and one in Rehabilitation, had my own business and many years of experience, yet I found the exams very frustrating as they want you to thing like a student again, which is very difficult when you know patients are not text book and you have specialized in one area for a long time.

Re setting up a business I believe each province is different, you will need to check out the rules for the licensing body in Toronto.

    Good Luck
