Question Physiotherapy Trust New Zealand vs Physiotherapy New Zealand

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
This is directed to PTs who are working in NZ. Did you join Physiotherapy NZ or Physiotherapy Trust NZ, and why? I am deciding who to join and weighing the pros & cons i.e. insurance provided by MPS vs AON, international recognition etc. Thanks.

Re: Physiotherapy Trust New Zealand vs Physiotherapy New Zealand

    Hi,
I have a membership with Physiotherapy NZ and am happy with their service. Although they are nauseatingly politically corrrect.

Physio Trust NZ, in my opinion, is highly focussed on musculoskeletal Physio and does not work in my personal interest. The membership numbers are very small (a fraction compared to PTNZ), although their ideals and initiatives are recommendable. I don't think they are internationally recognised, although they would like to be.
Even in New Zealand, they are not very well known as such and are mainly heard when opposing decisions of Physiotherapy NZ. To me they look like the little rebellious brother of a bigger society.

Which one is better if you work in MSk Physio? No idea, sorry.

I only know 1 person who is member and he is on one of their trustees.
Hope, you also get a reply from a Physio trust member.

    Regards,Fyzzio

Re: Physiotherapy Trust New Zealand vs Physiotherapy New Zealand

    Thanks for your reply.

There is a conference in Brisbane organised by the APA and they give a discounted rate to NZPS, but no mention about PT Trust.

I hope you can help answer a few more questions:
    1) The fee to join NZPS is much higher than PT Trust. Does that include premium for the indemnity insurance?
    2) In addition to discounted rates for courses/conferences, what other benefits have you reaped?

I did email PT Trust to enquire about the MPS insurance ie amount of coverage but received no reply.

    Thank you.

    Hi,
    1) yes, the fee does include indemnity insurance
    2) NZSP covers all aspects of Physio; from professional development to marketing and liaison/ negotiations with the government and insurance companies.
    Cheers.
