Hi everyone,

We want some advice.

I am an Australian resident and my boyfriend and I are looking to head back to Australia next year. He is not a resident but I am going to sponsor him as my partner so for the visa side of things we are fine.

With regards for getting Australian registration. We know that you can apply to New Zealand far easier and for a significantly lower costs and then use the trans-tasman agreement but have a few queries about it.

Firstly, do we actually have to go and work in New Zealand. Do we have to re-new his New Zealand registration every year even if he is practising in Australia?

Are there any big risks in taking this route?

He has a friend who has done the same recently and bypassed new Zealand and just went straight to work in Australia. She is now going to work in in NZ but we are unsure if this was mandatory.

Does anyone have experience and can offer words of wisdom.

I have been to New Zealand and can vouch for its beauty and if need be then we will go there for a few months. But we are a young couple wanting to settle down and get on with buying houses etc so dont want to globe trot for that much longer.

Thank you in advance!

Laura
