    Volunteering this summer

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
    Hi guys,

I am a 3rd year physio student and am interested in volunteering abroad this summer in a physiotherapy setting. I would be eager to working in any country- Africa, Asia, S./Central America...I'm open minded!

    Has anyone done this before?

If you have some tips or advice for me I'd be very grateful!!

    Thanks :-)

    Re: Volunteering this summer

    Hi

I graduated this year and went to Thailand to volunteer. I had a fantastic time, the people are so friendly and so grateful for your help, you barely feel like you're working! The villages out there don't have access to healthcare apart from small walk-in clinics and my patients had access to a physiotherapy service.

I used a company called Starfish Volunteers. I am still good friends with the guy who runs the company, Dan. He'll bend over backwards to get you the experience you want, and you only volunteer 4 days a week so you have long weekends to travel.

The website is Volunteer Programs Abroad, Volunteer Work with Global Volunteer Organizations Thailand They were by far the cheapest I found and a lot of your money actually goes to the people your are working with. Plenty of companies just pocket all of your money claiming that providing volunteers to the community is enough. Anyway check them out, I was the first physio ever to go with them, my testimonial isn't on there yet but watch this space.

Hope this helps and if you need any practical advice let me know.

    Laura
