    Evidence: chest physiotherapy is effective?

Could someone provide me some studies, research articles, randomised controlled trials which prove that chest physiotherapy is effective in removing secretions. I have already searched pubmed.

    Thanks.

It may be worth your while expanding your search strategy further than pubmed. Have you searched through the PEDRO site? If not, I think you may find this site very useful and something you may end up using frequently into the future.

    CPT evidence

Hi I also did an EBM search a while back and I hope this helps you in your search.

You could try to search for evidence on specific components of chest PT like bronchial hygiene, airway clearance techniques, directed coughing, huffing, ACBT, AD, breathing exercises, etc. etc. Chest PT is a very vague phrase. It doesn't have any "standard" definition or components in scientific literature. Some studies don't even list down what components of chest PT were scrutinized.

I could also email you some of the articles I found. Just tell me your specific topics and send me your email addy at [email protected]

    Good luck!

I was hoping someone could enlighten me about secretions in the lungs from a physiological angle. What is a normal amount of secretion? In a perfectly healthy person is it nil? What is the physiological stimulus or process that leads to increased production of mucus/secretion?
    Thanks

The best is to ask a Physiologist....,but the extrinsic and intrinsic multifactors affect the "sercretional" inflammatory production....a complex response at cellular level.
    Plenty of evidence...................!!!!!! :rolleyes
