    Ankle ORIF Information

    Taping
Just looking for some advice on the procedure of an ankle ORIF.

Are patietns likely to be wearing a cast following the procedure? If so, for how long? Also, similarly I gues they would be non WB, again if so for how long?

Following that, what is a reasonable timeframe to be WB, mobilising, performing mobs etc

Thanks for help, it's for a project so not going to breaking any ankles!

    Re: Ankle ORIF Information

    Must have Kinesiology Taping DVD
I'm not professionally trained in any medical field and am offering my knowledge only from my own ORIF experience:

I did not require a cast. I was non WB for 2 months post op. I then progressed to light WB (touch down pressure approx 5-10 pounds) with crutches. Approximately 3 months post op I progressed to cane use. Full WB was resumed 6 months post op and I was authorized to snowboard or run short distances at 7 months post op.

I was in physical therapy from one week after the operation until 9 months post op.

I currently have full range of motion and have returned to full physical activity.
