Hi guys,
I hope someone can help me out because I am really confused as to how to deal with this situation. I have been a NHS physiotherapist for 4 years now, and I love my job. I thought I had seen it all but this has left me baffled.
I was on duty and someone from reception came along to say that there was a well dressed gentleman to see me. Curious, I came along and there is a young man, very well dressed with white gloves and black waistcoat, masonic ring on display, with a large bunch of flowers.
His face looked familar....but I couldnt place it. Eventually when i got some privacy, and patiently waited for him to explain.
It turns out that I had treated him 2 years ago, whilst he was an inpatient for a crushed foot he sustained after a failed suicide attempt. I only saw him for one afternoon as a patient, although when he came to my hospital, I saw him around, never as a patient. By the way he blushed when I was in the vicinity, I took it he must have a wee liking for me.
He tells me that he hasnt been able to stop thinking about me for these last 2 years! he said:
"I dont know Ms. Bell, but you left quite the lasting impression on me. I know you only saw me for a short space of time but, you will never what an impact you had on me. I hope I am not being too forward, and I mean you no harm, but I was wondering if you would be amenable to going for a coffee?"
I had to turn him down (more out of shock than anything else) and he gave some bizzare hand motion which I can only assume was again, some Masonic distress call or some such thing, blushed and turned on his heel with a very quaint little bow.
I shelved it all day, and I havent decided what to do.
1) do I contact his GP?
2) Do I speak to my boss?
3) Do I speak to the police?
He wasnt threatning and I wasnt scared....but, I dont know....am I over reacting? Did he misbehave? Id appreciate any input...
