    Who's using Hip Protectors?

    Taping
Just wondering - is anyone using hip protectors for community based elderly clients? If so, how do the clients find them to wear? And who prescribes them?? Any information would be useful.

I've just done some surfing, and for all those of us in Sydney - I've found a website that's quite interesting - go to http://members.ozemail.com.au/~hipsaver/index.html

    re: Who's using Hip Protectors?

I have been involved in a compliance/user satisfaction project in Finland(during my studies in Human Aging and Elderly Services). Despite the advantages linked to the use of hip protectors based on study reports, I am afraid that compliance rate was less than 20% in more than 40 respondents of 120 sampled. Design was one of the issues raised. That prompted my paper, Falls Induced Hip Fractures:A case for the modification of hip protectors. They are usually prescribed by doctors in rehab units here especially for those elderly with a history of falls. Some elderly purchase them independently while some elderly service homes also try to incooperate the use into its care plan as a preventive measure.
