Hi,
It seems impossible to reply to this question because patients are all different and TENS units, too.
Dear Colleagues, I want to have a detailed discussion on the duration of analgesia caused by different modes of TENS. As all we know TENS have been used successfully clinically for the symptomatic relief of pain caused by a variety of disorders.
What will the duration of analgesia caused by conventional or high frequency mode of TENS?
What will the duration of analgesia caused by the low frequency mode of TENS? Most authrorities agree that low frequency mode operates by opioids causing analgesia for alm ost 5 hours. What is your opnions?
What will be the duration of analgesia caused by burst mode of TENS?
What will be the duration of analgesia caused by brief intense mode of TENS? Brief intense mode denotes stimulation with a high amplitude and high intensity.
What will the duration of analgesia caused by Modulation mode of TENS?
What will be the duration of analgesia by Hyperstimulation mode?

my personal experience says that the effect of tens when applied on high tens mode gives relief from pain only till the patient is on with the stimulation and the pain reappears as soon as the stimulation of mechanoreceptors is stopped, however the perception of the pain immediately after treatment remains un noticed for varying period of time and thats depends on patient to patient..
yes,
TENS is often a masking technique with conventional currents. If you want some relief, it is better to use accomodation mode but it is not teached at all.
