    ACL injury advice please

    Taping
I was knocked off my bicycle about 4.5 weeks ago and immediately knew something was not right with my knee. I went to hospital where they xrayed my knee, told me I had haemarthrosis, put my leg in a backslab and arranged for me to see a ortho consultant the following Monday. My knee was so amazingly sore and swollen on the Monday that the consultant didnt lay a finger on but did tell me that most cases of haemarthrosis had an underlying fracture/rupturted ACL or MCL/LCL injury. So I was sent home with a cricket pad splint and crutches and given a few mild excercises to do and to await an Wikipedia reference-linkMRI appt. 4 weeks down the line and my knee locks when straightened, is very tender on the medial side (which I presume is medial Wikipedia reference-linkmeniscus injury - correct me if im wrong!) and is very uncomfortable when straightened. However, when im walking around my house, it isnt really that painful. Just feels very unstable. There are also lots of audible and palpable clicks and clunks when I bend it. My MRI appt is this coming Friday 11th March. My questions are as follows - is it normal for a ruptured ACL to be relatively pain free when walking? According to my symptoms, what are the chances that I have ruptured my ACL? Are there any excercises that I can do that wont hurt but will help with getting a bit of muscle tone back as my leg looks like a think weedy chicken leg right now!
Thanks in advance for anyone that can help/advise me

    Must have Kinesiology Taping DVD
best waiting for Wikipedia reference-linkMRI on monday to see the extent of the damage but from what you've said it does sound quite ACL/Meniscal like... hope it goes ok. If the results suggest you need surgery (they might not remember) then ask your consulatant about being referred to physio before the op for prehab. Could start with some simple static contractions of the quads in particular to keep them from wasting.
