    I am looking for advice

    Taping
I am looking for advice regarding physiotherapy as a future career path, with the desire to get into sports physiotherapy.

I don't even know where to begin and I welcome advice in anyway shape or form.

Re: I am looking for advice

    Hi,
it is as difficult to give advice as it must have been to ask the question.

Maybe, you could start by either asking one or two questions or telling us the reasons behind your career choice.
This gives a good baseline for comments.

    Regards,
    Fyzzio

Re: I am looking for advice

    Hi Fyzzio,

Well I have recently had to see a physio as I was injured in a car accident and my body was never the same since. So I went to see a person my uncle recommended and after only 2 sessions I feel great!

We got to talking after my last session and I said I would like to learn massage (which she ends every session with) and it just carried on from there.

I have always wanted a career that helps people and what's better than helping people face to face (sometimes )

Re: I am looking for advice

Hi Scottzander, perhaps the greatest thing about the profession is its scope/breadth of practice. That means the many and varied areas of heath care that physiotherapists are involved in. And to be honest it is only when you become a student and go on clinical placements that your eyes are opened to this hidden fact. The public face of physiotherapy is the outpatient department or private practice but in truth that accounts for around 10% of the areas that physios are working in. These area range from paediatrics, rehabilitation (stroke, neurological, developmental), orthopaedics, plasters, intensive care, general medicine, vascular medicine, amputees, women's health, chronic disease, palliative care etc etc.

Perhaps if you were to write to the head of department of a large hospital and asked if you might observe areas of the department at work over a week or two you would find many of your answers. And of course would be able to ask many of your questions.

Hi Bob, I think your idea about asking to observe the department is a great one and I will get in contact with the head of my nearest hospital and post back what is said.
