Re: why SWD is being criticised in some localities?

the very first thing is that use of diathermy is not decreasin the way u think,
cause PWD if is thing of choice pple prefer it ,othewise swd is most preferable deep heatin modality,

n the thing to be quote is that swd is avoided in elderlies, cause it to some extent can damage the skeleton ,n lead to calcarea deficiency ,inducin its peripheral absorption ,which's less in case of PWD,d/t some rest period .

Re: why SWD is being criticised in some localities?

We were told at uni never to use it on pregnant women and pregnant physio's are not advised to use it either as there is some evidence to suggest that SWD can cause birth defects- I'm not sure on the specifics other than it was from some research in Scandinavia

Re: why SWD is being criticised in some localities?

It's interesting my having just subscribed to an international forum because if this was UK only the responses about SWD would be different. If you want a UK answer this is it:- There's very little sound evidence about the risks or benefits of SWD because the research to back up the ideas does not exist. We cannot be sure what it does except make tissues hot.

    Must have Kinesiology Taping DVD
The use of SWD is definitely decreasing. You really dont need a modality to bring pain relief to the patient. Our profession has moved on ahead in leaps & bounds leaving it far behind. In India where I practice, assessments, exs, manual therapy is the mainstay of treatment.
