Major problem / Symptomatic Areas
Foot - Posterior - Right
Hi all,
Earlier this year I took up boxing at the glorious age of 39 being rather heavy and unfit – (1.95m tall and 114kg). 3 weeks in after a lot of jumping rope, jumping jacks and burpees I got serious pain in both heels. Fast forward 10 months to today and I’ve still got pain and discomfort in my right heel. At times I have to limp and can’t walk fast, running is out of the question. (note: I’ve also got a combo of arthritis/sessamoiditis/turf toe on the same foot which also got worse/ I'm also incredibly inflexible, from a standing position if I try to bend forward to touch my toes, I barely pass my kneecaps - I have very tight calf muscles).
Doctors diagnosed the problem in my heel as retrocalcaneal bursitis and prescribed the usual course of action. I’ve had an x-ray done showing no Haglund’s and no problems with ligaments and bones. I’ve also had an MRI done – shows no problem in the bursa area – just effusion in my right ankle talus posterior capsule and tendon sheath (probably from a very bad ankle sprain 10 years ago.)
How is it that I’m diagnosed with RB and it doesn’t show on the MRI? How come nothing’s been working? (night splint, stretching, the Strassburg sock, stretches, topical NSAI’s, rest)? 6 doctors and physios I’ve seen have a different opinion and prescription and nothing’s worked for me.
Is there anything I could do or look into? Or is a cortisone shot possibly followed by surgical removal the only option?
Thanks in advance for any kind feedback.
David
