    Gait Analysis Discussion

    Taping
    hi all,,
let us all participate in discusssion and continous learning of topics of our field...how about beginning with discussion of gait....we all see patients with gait deviations,,lets share our knowledge and understand gait....

lemme begin with stance phase ( i use the RLA as i have been taught in RLA):
1, initial contact, 2 loading response, 3 mid stance (mst), 4 terminal stance (tst) and pre swing....now how u recognize limbs in these phases? what are the visual references ?
i hope this will be helpful and kinna fun ,,,so continue the above thread ,,,,

    Re: Gait Analysis Discussion

Well in OZ we use heel strike, yield of the knee, mid stance (knee ext), late stance, toe off and swing.

Generally we talk of landing in slight abduction and external rotation and foot supination through swing phase to heel strike, moving to a relative internal rotation, adduction and pronation through stance towards toe off.

    Re: Gait Analysis Discussion

why there is only 2 posts i think this is good topic ? i study mechanics of gait this semester so what do u mean by recognize limbs ? do y mean this ?
hip IC flex 30 LR flex 30 -or+5 Ms 0+or-5 Ts some degree of ext PS 10 ext IS 30 ext MS max flex TS less than 30 and hip is slightly add and int rotation during stance
knee IC 0+or-5 LR this is the 1st flex 15 MS it is o again +or-5 by the end of TS it is flex to reach 10 flex during PS and 40 flex in IS for leg raise then it begins ext during MS and TS to be almost extended during IC
the max flex 60 occurs during mid swing
is that right ? y know i hate this biomechanics i really need to discuss it with someone i have a quize tomorrow and really feel that i didn't know any thing . plzzz help

    Re: Gait Analysis Discussion

Gait analysis is an art form in and of itself. I like to put my hands above my head as I walk, how does that feel. Wow, this is hard to explain, it is very intuitive. Basically, I try to isolate different muscle group and see how that effects different functions. I am sorry, very difficult to explain this to someone. So I will have someone walk back and forth, I will say, grasp your hand behind your head, then I ask them how does that feel, the differences are very subtle. This will tell me what area of the body need to be worked first. By worked in mean exercises that restore the lost function. I find a definite order in what areas to work, wrong order, that causes people to resist treatment, same as going to fast for someone. Functional testing is better than gait analysis because it is easier to learn. Having someone drop a pen and watch them pick it up, do they lean one way or the other, head tilt, arm position. This is my first post so let me know if I need to explain what i am talking about, or if I am being way to simple. I just have no use for anything technical, I try and keep thing simple as could be. I look to the pelvis first, post or ant, hip foward, tilt.
