If the pain is occoring after removal of the braces try them on it for around one week and see how thow pain is
hi everyone
i am doing thesis on role of patellar taping on pain and function in knee osteoarthritis.
i applied patellar taping on two young patients with mild-moderate knee osteoarthritis. the patients were using knee stabilizer for a month, after application of taping (Mulligan's taping technique) the patients were asked not to wear the stabilizer.....but after one day both patients complaint of aggravation in knee pain especially in floor sitting.
What can be the cause of pain?
should i discontinue taping?
Please do help as i am unable to find anything in books or net about it.
thanks and waiting ............

admit to this not being my strongest area but is the OA in the femoral-tibia or patello-femoral articulation? would think that would help decide what taping technique to try?
i am dealing it OA of bibio femoral joint but taping is to be used to augment the function of VMO

HiRa :D !
again i stress not my strong point and interested in your research for your thesis and others thoughts; but would taping of the patella to augment VMO function be expected to help mild-moderate OA of the tibio-femoral joint? have no problem with it for changing symptoms of patello-femoral joint
tapping will only improve the functional status of patient with mild to moderate knee OA
it however wont change or improve the status of knee OA
just like that knee support OA patients wear for work and walk does not alter the status of disease it only helps in reducing pain and improving function.

Hi Hijump,
Am interested as to why you are using the Mulligan technique.
Have you considered other taping techniques as well?
If not, why not?
I do not know enough about Mulligan and knee OA but so I cannot comment on your original question.
I do know that small pieces of elastic therapeutic tape help ower painlevels and improve QoL and walking distances.
Good luck with your thesis.
