I had a very similar experience with a patient who was sent back to her specialist. The patient had the site drained by the specialist and continued on with physio 1 week after this procedure with no further complications.
I currently have a patient post pre-patella excision surgery after chronic Bursitis from a kneeling job, which was 2 months ago, he was immobilised in back slab for 4 weeks, and now presents for Physio as now mobilisation can start. He has no pain, strength is recoving well, and is able to run, etc everything except kneel. The problem is, is that he has extreme superficial swelling right under the skin, but not so bad that it restricts range, it is really just unsightly. I have been unconcerned about this and told him to continue exercise, also applying joint mob's and quad work, however his General Practitioner is very concerned, telling him to stop Physio and rest, elevate, ice, NSAIDs, sending him back to the specialist. Who is right????
I cannot seem to find any info on post pre-patella excision anywhere. Can anyone give me any ideas??? Am I on the right track???
