Thanks for that.
I was more interested in any research comparing taping, Air-Stirrup, Tubigrip and or plaster.
Just wondering what people use for initial management of acute ankle sprains.
I know the whole RICE thing but Tubigrip has been found to cause increased analgesia use (Emerg Med J 2001; 18:46-50) and also may cause an anterior compressive band.
I feel like taping the acute ankle sprain may also cause problems with skin integrity and constriction.
Can anyone point out any articles which advocate anything else other than those mentioned?

Thanks - unfortunately it only includes articles up to 2001 it seems...
Hi I am writing up notes on a case study for an assignment;
The patient was a rugby player with severe swelling around the ankle and diagnosed with a Grade II atfl sprain, however due to there lack of rehabilitation ( the patients choice) they experienced instability in the ankle.... after a period of a few weeks as they continued to train and play without the ankle being supported inversion happened leading to a tib/fib fracture and internal fixation used in the ankle.... almost a yr later the ankle is going through the rehab ie.Proprioception, strengthening and increased ROM exercises that should have taken part in the beginning.
I was wondering peoples thoughts on if the ATFL sprain could have predisposed the fracture??
Thanks
Concurrent tibial and fibular fracture affecting the syndesmosis requires a considerable amount of trauma. Doubt that your patient could have avoided it with adequate rehab of his previous injury. I guess I can only be corrected until someone comes up with a solid piece of evidence to suggest otherwise
