The relationship between HandTutor exercise performance and the performance score recorded during a functional activity test. The population chosen for the study is patients following orthopedic hand injuries. The study will be performed at the Carmiel rehabilitation center in Israel. The number of patients in the study is approximately 25. The objective is not improvement in HandTutor exercise performance but to test the hypothesis that there is a relationship between HandTutor impairment evaluation and HandTutor exercise performance when compared to Functional activity score. The study is managed by Manal Azaizeh under the supervision of professor Tamar Weiss and Dr Rachel Kit****. The estimated date for starting the research is February 2010 and the study is planned to be completed after 10 months. Impairment evaluations to be assessed include: ROM. It is anticipated that the relationship between different range of motions and functional exercise score will allow us to determine whether patients who have better hand range of motion evaluated by the HandTutor can perform functional activities significantly better compared to patient with less range of motion. In addition the question of whether range of motion can be increased significantly during the HandTutor treatment task will be assessed.
The second research aims to assess the efficacy of finger tendon release surgery following trigger finger problems. The HandTutor system has finger motion kinematic evaluations that can be used as a tool to determine the pattern of finger motion before and after surgery. These evaluations will be used before and after surgery to assess the success of the surgery. The research will be performed in Wolfson hospital in hand rehabilitation department and managed by Dr Amir Doron. The estimated date to start the study is April 2010 and the estimated time to carry out the study is 8 months.
