Stem cell therapy for spinal cord injury is in it's infancy. We are only up to conducting Phase 1 trials - ie small trial to test the safety of the procedure. The long term effects and potential harm (eg the development of tumours or abnormal nervous system development, or autoimmune disease) are not known and we need data on this before giving any sort of go ahead to conduct larger trials that could examine the efficacy of such procedures.

It is way too early to start offering this as a treatment. Treatment should be confined to well designed and ethical clinical trials where we can find out how useful and safe stem cell transplant can be.

Companies do circumvent the normal development of a new treatment by offering to patients outside a clinical trial. this is happening already in countries like China. The treatments are very expensive, may be of poor quality and may be useless or even harmful to the patients. Without close monitoring this contributes nothing to our understanding of such a treatment.

What is meant by "govt approved"?

In fact this clinic is an example of one of the worst ethical practices. The site advertises their services and offers untested stem cell surgery to patients who are probably desperate for help. If I had a spinal cord injury and was desperate for a cure and I read this site I would be emailing them for help. Wouldn't you? But that is a plea of help from the vulnerable.

there doesn't seem to be any science being carried out here. No record of any published studies. There are multiple anecdotes listed - all of them involve positive - if not miraculous results for a very wide variety of neurological injuries and conditions. But they are just anecdotes. I am sure they wouldn't bother putting up their failures, surgical complications and adverse effects. And those who are benefiting how do we know if it is due to the surgery? Or is it a placebo or or the other allied health interventions that are being offered.

Stem cell transplant therapy holds huge promise to people with neurological deficits. However we need to see the results of good quality randomised trials that look at functional outcomes and potential for harm before making such treatments available. In the mean time these sorts of clinics are happy to experiment in an uncontrolled way on patients at their expense. People with neurological problems deserve better than this.

Hi fellas,
Stemp cell therapy is a agressive intervention i should admit.
It does gives good result , Once i had the oppurtunity to treat such a patient.
I was able to make him supported standing... It feels great when our efforts gives good results.

THAT PATIENT DID HIS STEMP CELL THERAPY FORM DELHI.
IN MUMBAI I TREATED HIM FOR AROUND 1 MONTH WITHIN WHICH HE WAS ABLE TO STAND WITH SUPPORT.
WELL HE HAD BEEN RECIEVING EMS TO L.L.
PASSIVE MOVT, ACTIVE ASSISTED
SUSPENSION THERAPY

The stem cell therapy is getting a wider support in south asian countries like India. But the main hindrance is the cost factor. It is said that this treatment is out of reach of maximum of lower income groups in the south asian countries. But I am confident that this therapy will work and will help to cure most of the ailments.
