    Assessment and measurement of walking

    Hi,

I'm currently in the middle of preparing for a presentation about current evidence for assessment and measurement of walking. Have been doing lots of reading and have thought through the most obvious outcome measures and assessment techniques......and so far I have Tinetti (the gait section) and visual measurement of walking.....

I've considered the other outcome measures - TUAG, 6 metre walk, 6 min walk, EMS, etc but to be honest I think they don't really measure walkign specifically, more like the individual components that make up walking.........

    can anyone think of anything?

    Hallo ,

Ithink u have to note pattern of gait from anterior and lateral views, rythm, time for phase of weight bearing ,surface of flour, face expressions, movements of U.E. during gait, being on/off shoes, posture, dependent or independent gait (as may use assisstive device),keep in ur mind nature of disease could save alot of ur time as it could lead u to defects of gait, age, wieght of body,....

    hope this could help u!

    Regards

    Hi Jackie

You're right the TUAG measures functional mobility as a whole rather than just walking, tinetti seems the most relevant for what you are after, or you could try the (Hauser) Ambulation Index....have you looked at the CSP's outcome measure section? There are lots of outcome measures on there http://www.csp.org.uk/director/effec...s/database.cfm
