What happened to this medial meniscus arthroscopic incision? Big lump formed...pics!

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Approximately 3 weeks ago I had a partial medial meniscectomy on my right knee. I had some bleeding the next day out of one of the incisions (lateral side). A week later it bled again, and then I developed a red area around this incision (cellulitis) and was treated with Cipro for 7 days. The area blanched to white when pressing on it. The area is no longer red, but now there is a round lump near the tendon that "pops out" when I do a quad set. It does not appear to be a solid/hard mass, but it does look weird and abnormal.

The Physician Assistant has looked at it twice and mentioned holding off on aspirating it, hoping it will go down on it's own. The residual swelling continues to subside around my knee, but the round lump does not seem to be getting any smaller. I am seeing the orthopaedic surgeon on Monday about it.

It does not cause me any pain, however if my leg it outstretched straight for any length of time, it sort of "catches" when I bend my leg. Again, no pain at all just increased tightness near that tendon/muscle to the right of my kneecap.

I am thinking it is left over infected tissue, possibly still infected, or maybe an infected bursa?

Anyway I have attached 2 pictures, the first one with my leg straight and the second flexed with the lump.

Anyone have any good idea or best guess? Has anyone ever seen this before?

I am wondering if the Ortho surgeon will decide to leave it alone or aspirate it?

PS: The ACL graft scar is from a previous ACL reconstruction surgery...

Re: What happened to this medial meniscus arthroscopic incision? Big lump formed...pi

Hi, I just recently had a meniscectomy on my left lateral Wikipedia reference-linkmeniscus. It was a simple partial meniscectomy according to my doctor. I have a little lump every time i try to do light quad sets. I didnt notice it before, but im about 2 weeks after surgery and notice it now. I was wondering if you knew more about it since you had it. did you have to aspirate it or did it fix on its own? what should i do? the lump is over the area the cut was made (the lateral side). Thanks.
