    standing endurance training exercise

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Dear all,

I am coming across with a case with good LL muscle power (MMT grade 4) but poor standing tolerance, standing for 2 mins and then starts to have body sway++.

I am thinking of is there any good exercises that can help client to reduce body sway and to increase standing tolerance ?

    hi
you can use support for the client to stand with
ask him/her to stand on on leg with hands on the back of he chair......and when he feels the body is about to sway and his legs are giving way he should take all the weight of the body on hands rather and rest....
but DO NOT SIT.......let him balance a bit and then again stand by taking weight on legs.... with time he will be able to stand for longer with whole weight on legs.

[also check for neurological disturbance for imbalance IF muscles are not affected]

    hope its usefull

    hi
if the muscle power is good and the sway appears, then look for other causes.
it can be a deficit in proprioception
it can be other sensory deficits
    it can be vestibular problem
    other neural problems
so there is a need for extensive evaluation, keeping in mind the contributors of good balance
