Hello,
I am 4 months post-surgery at the right L5 nerve root (foraminotomy/microdiscectomy). I had this condition for nearly three years which came with a significant foot drop and muscle contracture. The cause was an obstructed foraminal exit. I am also of the unsupported opinion that this nerve root was under traction during that time due to a peripheral entrapment.
I have been attending physiotherapy since surgery, but I do not feel like I am making progress. I am worried about my prognosis (is this chronic weakness permanent?). Is there an appropriate specialist to see that could answer these questions? My surgeon has fobbed me off saying he has done his job (reduce pain), which he did.
Thanks for any tips.
