Hi Gaurav.The place of shortwave diathermy to manage osteoporosis remain remote in the face of available modern research in physical rehabilitation.Exercise remain the mainstay in the management of various kinds of osteoporosis.U may not find shortwave diathermy in most physio clinics in the west just like therapeutic ultrasound as recent research no longer support their relivance in practice.The two machines are still very popular in Africa and the East.yelufem,BMR(PT).

Shortwave is not contraindicated in managing a patient with osteoporosis, and No, shortwave will not do anything to improve osteoporosis generally. Osteoporosis is a systemic problem...

manual therrapy, resisted exercises are the only modalities that one has to be careful with when managing an osteoporotic patient. Yelufem has suggested that exercises that involve weight bearing which will stimulate bone growth is perhaps the only physical method of improving osteoporosis, this good diet, medication( bone ca supplements) is what we use generally. Osteoporosis is generally managed by a team of professionals not just the physiotherapist.
