    need advice on ankle injury

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
A few days ago I injured my ankle. I twisted inside a divit in the ground. I was able to walk on it and had some pain, but not excruciating. It eventually swelled some, not severe, and the discoloration ended in a few days.

The first day I went to Right Time medicine, a clinic, and they xrayed it. The xray came back negative.

The next day I was able to walk fairly well and even stand on the leg. The swelling reduced.

Yet I still went to an orthopedic. He would not take the xrays from the Right time and said they weren't reliable. He said I had some type of fracture. I got put in a walking boot. The weird thing about it is that they did not put fracture on the one of the sheets I took home. I asked someone to ask the doctor what the diagnosis was and he said it wasn't a fracture. He only spent a few minutes with me. Then I look again at the sheet and it says orthopedic code for a lateral malleolus closed.

It seems this orthopedic keeps changing his story. So yet I am still in this boot.

If I really had this lateral malleolus injury would I be able to stand on that foot without pain for 10 seconds straight? I can. Would I be able to walk with little pain? When I looked at the original xray, nothing looked out of place, but then again I'm no expert.

I've later heard that this orthopod does not have a good reputation and I even talked to someone personally who told me horror stories about this doctor.

I guess I should get a third opinion on this.

Re: need advice on ankle injury

The other weird thing about this orthopedic visit is that the doctor said one of the tendons detached and then reattached...how can that happen, or does this sound like a strange story? he also said I should wear this boot even while I sleep, which I thought was rather strange. I think they also seemed to be anxious to sell their physical therapy services after I would get out of the boot.

This is the kind of place where everyone seems to walk out of this place with a boot on.

Re: need advice on ankle injury

I did some research on this type of fracture, if I have it:

According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, "lateral ankle or malleolus fractures typically involve severe pain at the fracture site" (I did not experience this). "An inability to bear weight is a common symptom associated with lateral ankle fractures" (I was able to stand on the leg by itself for 10 seconds without much pain). "...and they result in considerable swelling and bruiding around the involved area." (I only experienced discoloration for a few days in a 2 inch radius around the bone)
