    TKR

Can anyone tell me - when a patient has a TKR are all or any of the knee ligaments left intact or repaired . . . or are they removed altogether?

In my experience as PT in Netherlands.
Usually, with the Unicondylar prosthesis cruciate and lateral ligaments are kept intact.
With the Total Knee prosthesis this differs, so taking a look at the operation report might give some more insight in this matter.
lateral ligaments though, are usually kept intact, Wikipedia reference-linkcruciate ligaments can differ depending on operation technique and/or type of prosthesis.

Hi- this is Bikash, A Sr PT in India at Bangalore.Yes you asked the right question. In TKR the ligament is not disturbed. Its only artificial light weight prosthesis is being inserted.thats the reason the patient can stand up by evening on the same day with full weight bearing and can do all flexion and extensions. We used to discharge the patient after TKR on the very 5th day at here.If ligament is touched, he or she cant walk for long.thanks.
