Hello
I've heard of a new and very successful orthesis for patients with gross valgus deformity of the foot as a result of tibialis posterior tendon failure, where surgery is not appropriate. It involves the use of a lower leg brace (beginning just below the knee) attached and hinged to an ankle stabilizer. A patient-specific insole is inserted into the the ankle stabiliser and the stabilizer is inserted into a standard sport shoe.
A couple of images of the brace and stabilizer are here cjm1965 - Lower leg brace with ankle stabilizer for tibialis posterior malfunction
Has anyone heard of this treatment? Does anyone have any experiece as to how well it works? If the patient has pain in the knee because of years of walking with an incorrectly aligned leg, would this also help realign the knee? Any thoughts most welcome!
