    ACL post op precautions?

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
I know there are many different ideas on this subject but would like some info if possible.

What's the reason for not allowing SLR or having the knee in flexed position post op.
Also what's the reason behind supporting the tibia when moving leg, i.e.for transfers?

I know this is basic stuff but it's for PBL.

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: ACL post op precautions?

    Hi,

Ok, for PBL, you work it out...

    1. What does the ACL do?
    2. What motions tensions/increases length in the ACL?
    3. What motions decrease tension/length on the ACL?
    4. What muscles increase or produce those motions that tension or decrease tension on the ACL?
    5. What is the operation of the ACLR involve?
    6. What are the tissue healing times involved?
    7. When is the graft at it's strongest points?
    8. When is the graft at it's weakest points?
    9. Was the injury isolated alone to the ACL? (hint - very rare) - what other considerations should there be then?
Answer these questions and suddenly your assignment is nearly done !

    Re: ACL post op precautions?

OK...I'm going to butt in to this thread with my own questions...somewhat related. If any of you see alot of ACL repairs could you have a peak in the Journal Club section for a somewhat recent post of an ACL article. I posed a question re. ACL injuries and repairs specific to the newer faster rehab protocols but haven't had anyone chime in (you don't have to read the article to give me your opinion!!). Basically...I'm begging for someone to pay attention to me!!

    hahaha

PBL is (i think) "problem based learning" which is why i didn't answer the questions...what is the point doing someone else's homework?? But directed pointed questions should be helpful!
