    re: cerebralpalsy

There are a range of management options available but you really need to discuss these face-to-face with a physiotherapist. Children can vary a huge amount following a birth asphyxia and so there is no "recipe" of treatment. A thorough assessment needs to be made in order to identify the most appropriate methods for you to use. If you are not already in touch with a physio. ask for a referral from your G.P. to your local community paediatric physiotherapy department. Hope this is of some help.

    re: cerebralpalsy

    Hi,
I work with kids with cerebral palsy. I have not treated anyone with opisthotonus but I remember a talk about a child with this condition. They treated this child with 24 hour positioning, predominantly in a flexed position ie. alternately sitting in his chair (he tolerated this if the tilt-in-space function was used), lying in side-lying with his neck bent slightly forward, and being held in a flexed position. Gradually the reflex diminished.
I hope that this is of some help.

    Hi mohan,
I know your request was a long while back, but i just saw it and thought you might be interested in my work. I have treated a patient for symptomatic relief of opisthotonus quite successfully with acupuncture over the past 18 months.
Feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you are interested in how we did it.

hello.............i am very new to this site but as i happened to read about ur child....how is he at present........if he is still having the extensor thrust or opisthotonus one should go for relaxation techniques ...slow stroking...motivation of normal movement pattern in activities of daily living...elongation of hypertonic muscles with positioning strategies..facilitation of rotational movements..ice treatments...repeated contractions of spastic muscles to obtain autoinhibition...............would feel very nice if this tips are some use to you..........
