Re: Ultravoilet for child with ricket

Hi Muhana, Wow, rickets - not often heard about down under. My first thought would be - get the kid into the sun, make sure they have vitamin D and calcium supplementation. If you are wanting to apply ultraviolet radiation to the child via a lamp, please seek advice from someone who has done it before - you need to be able to calculate the E1 of the child, then determine the correct time/distance of lamp from child to apply the treatment safely. Overdosage could result in severe burns. All the best to you, and your patient.

    Hi colleagues,

As a former rickets patient, I am very glad that my parents were told to let me play in the sun (in white sand) a lot. I also recieved UV treatment at the time.
Rickets seems to be coming back. Especially in countries with so much sun and heat that people do not go out into it any more unless fully dressed and protected.

I would say the best person to turn to to give you information on how to apply is Tim Watson if you do not have anyone in your neighbourhood to turn to.
Electrotherapy on the Web - Home Page
I have contacted him in the past and he does react to questions.

Wishing you all the best with your little patient.

    Esther
