Re: Hydrocephalous child of 16 months

    Hi

Physiotherapy is about training function. So your question cannot be answered without a lot more information about the child and his her abilities and circumstances.

I am happy to set up a discussion with you - but first we need to consider confidentiality and consent. Are you asking about a child in your care? If so, how are you going to deal with the issue of consent to talk about the child and his/her family?

    Best wishes

    Pam

Re: Hydrocephalous child of 16 months

In the meantime, we can start to talk in general terms about the impact of hydrocephalus on a child's function.

The fist point to consider is the cause of the hydrocephalus and any associated developmental disorders. This gives you an indication of prognosis and likely outcomes.

The next point that needs to be attention is the size of the child's head. Does the child have a shunt - and is the hydrocephalus under control

And before we even start to consider assessing function and participation, we need to know about the child's family - who cares for the child, what are their resources, how can we involve them in decision making, what information do they need to help them participate fully in the child's rehabilitation.

You will find good information on family centred services at FCS Sheets - CanChild
