    pes planus

    Cerebral Palsy In Infancy
Iam treating children with autism who have bilateral pes planus(flatfoot). These children all are above four years of age.Can I advise footwear with medial arch support to these children or should I stress on foot exercises. One of them presents with slight pes cavus with pes planus(bilateral)while others have only pes planus.Intrinsic muscle power is normal in these children.Kindly advise.

    Re: Pes planus

For treatment of pes planus it is necessarily combination of proper shoes with arc support pads and combination of exercises for strength training feet muscles and lower extremity. See if there is disproportion in strength for any group of feet muscles. Program for strength training is basic program for flex and ext of the fingers and foot through variety of positions.

Firstly thanks for your reply that was helpful. I also wanted to know if modified footwear can be advised for a 5 year old child who has a combination of metatarsus adductus and flat foot in the same foot.if so what type of footwear would be preferable. The childs foot is slightly hypotonic whereas the other foot has normal tone.Kindly advise.
