    C.P- Endurance Training required

    Cerebral Palsy In Infancy
    Hi everybody
Plz help me out regarding a case of C.P(12 yr/Female) currently studying in 5th class with manifestations of:

    Delayed birth cry
    Delayed milestones
Slight behaviour problems like(she knows everything but does not write in the exam, keeps herself untidy does not bother to comb or dress well while going out etc)

Now at present she can walk very well, go to school, independent in all daily tasks but the only problem is faced is of fatigue while running and jumping. Due to this she is rejected in her peer group as she cannot play games of skipping and jumping and races with them.
    No deformities are present
Plz help me in the management how to plan out her endurance training for jumping and running activities.

You start to make the biggest mistake: trying to seperate mental behaviour and physical behaviour. When there is a delayed development by no means you can seperate!
It is easy to improve physical endurance since you just apply sports physiology. Does she feel this as her problem or do you? Be aware that you do not cause more frustration about her being different. But what do you want to achieve? Is that the biggest handicap for this girl? If so then she wouldn't have theb diagnose of CP.
The symptoms, how meager described by you show to me at least 2 things: -likely problems to differentiate left from right (that is why she has problems with writing), likely poor bodyplan (delayed milestones, does not bother to comb).
How about her consentration span? I assume that is rather poor as well. You have to do a proper assessment which will take you at least 3 sessions of an hour. Starting with extended observations would help a lot in goal setting.
Read books about psychomotor development this all is controversial but you could help her a lot with getting out of the habit of approaching this as a purely physical problem. I will give you a last clue, how is her balance? If this is not so good it will influence her mental and physical performance and as a result her running will take far more energy than necessary.
Cheers! By the way I am not pretending to be right but consider what I write.

    Hi,

Maybe some work on her "learning disabilities" would help. And later work on her endurance training.

Why wait until later? Perhaps a better level of fitness would assist her to cope with attention and fatigue issues during other therapies?

Physiodude makes a point. In case you want to improve her exercise tolerance I would say though improve her core stability first. which in general, also in non 'handicapped' is not very good. By improving the core stability use of energy will be far better and therefor a possible improvement of her exercise tolerance. Try out yourself if you have a push bike. slump on your bike or tighten actively the muscles around the waist (e.g. abdominal) and see if it makes any difference to you.
