    Respiratory Techniques in Intellectual Disability

    Cerebral Palsy In Infancy
Any opinions on the best respiratory techniques to use with a profoundly intellectually and physically disabled population that cannot follow verbal commands?I'm doing as survey on current trends in the field.I'm interested in airway clearance and incresing chest expansion.

    dear laura,
that is not easy question you ask...

I would try any type of blowing game... like blowing bubbles, blowing a balloon away ( hanging from a string ).
Singing and trying to blow on a flute can be fun. I have never had any success with inspiratory exercises with patients ( including children) who are intellectually handicapped.

    Good luck with your survey.
