Brief Medical History Overview
MCL/ACL Recurrence?
Hi
I am 19 year old athlete who has had bad problems with my right knee the past two years. Used to play basketball, gaelic football and soccer but now only play semi-professional/professional soccer since the injuries.
March 07- MCL sprain(Grade 2 i think) in soccer tackle, bit of instability but was back playing competitively in 8 weeks
August 07- ACL tear, patellar dislocation and MCL sprain in gaelic match, foot got caught in ground and i fell one way and opponent fell towards me onto my knee.
November 07-ACL reconstruction using left hamstring graft
Carried out extensive rehabilitation. Got the all clear from surgeon to return to training at April/May 08. Told to concnetrate on one sport
September 08- 2nd competitive match since ACL recon- MCL Sprain quick change of direction and twinge/click felt down inside of knee severe bruising returned to playing mid November
March 09-twinge/click in MCL, returned to training last night and after approx 5 mins sharp turn and painful click and instability in knee, no swelling or bruising and i can completely lock out my knee, but it has clicked getting out of the car!
Have been with same physio (very good reputation)since March 07 and know that my right knee is very lax in the MCL test, but there is no movement with ACL test(graft appears to still be intact), I read a case study by a New York surgeon and he found that the ACL graft was vertical and this lead to rotational instability which i think i have.
Should i go back and see my surgeon? is there any advantage in an mcl reconstruction considering the multiple problems? any information on other options available to get back to playing at high level sport would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Stephen
