    Brief Medical History Overview

    ACL reconstruction knee brace rom

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
hi I had an ACL reconstruction two weeks ago here in France, I'm not a native french speaker so communication is not perfect. My knee brace was set to 60 degrees range of motion when I left hospital and has been unchanged since then. Should the range be increased with time?

Also does the brace need to be worn an night (if so why)?

    Thanks

    Hi,

The use of post-surgical braces is used in some countries more than others. Here in Norway it is not normal to use braces after isolated ACL repairs - they are only used if the MCL has also been repaired, to prevent flexion greater than 90 degrees for 6 weeks.

If it was just the ACL you had repaired I would have been aiming to get you to 90 or 100 degrees by week 2, particularly so you could get enough movement to be able to do some light cycling (which is a great way of improving swelling).

Here is a good link for you on ACL rehabilitation guidelines:

    Good luck!
