    Brief Medical History Overview

    Ongoing calf pain in heptathlete

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Hi, I have had calf pain in my left leg running on and off for a year now.
I am a heptathlete and can do starts in spikes, drag a weighted sled and run up stairs with no calf pain, but when I try and jog or stride out I get pain in my mid calf near the gastroc tendinous junction. I also get a lot of pain throwing javelin (my left leg is the leg I plant and then throw off).
It gets worse as I run, and my calf feels hot and inflamed. I ice it when I get home then I cant feel it at all a few hours later.
Do you think this could be related to nerves or something else?
I had a labral tear in my right hip and coincidently have had calf pain in my left leg ever since I had the tear surgically repaired. Could this be linked (change in hip biomechanics?)
I also have pain under my left sesamoid/big toe when doing calf raises.
    Any advice/thoughts much appreciated.
    Thank you

Cause your in NZ I would just suggest going to see a physio if you haven't already done so.
Are you regularly stretching your calf? given it comes on with a stride it could be a neurological stretch. Get a physio to assess your hip back and neural tension.

    How are you now?
