    Brief Medical History Overview

    Re-rupture achilles in cast??

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Hi everyone, just signed up and figured I would ask a quick question. Basically, I ruptured my Achilles tendon and had surgery on it Friday afternoon. Everything was going well, then last night I felt my calf move. My cast goes up to the knee and I was wiggling my toes to get some blood flow going. I felt my calf move up, and then I proceeded to kind of spaz out because I thought I may have just undone my surgery.

Is this even possible or am I worrying too much? Also, is it possible to re-rupture while I am sleeping? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thankyou and take care,

    Brian

    Re: Re-rupture achilles in cast??

Yes it is possible. The immobilisation stops you stretching out the tendoarchilles and calf muscle. But if you contracted the muscle too much within the cast you could rupture the tendon.

    I would get it checked.

    Re: Re-rupture achilles in cast??

Well that's no good. I will check first thing tomorrow. It's weird because I didn't even feel the achilles move at all, it was the "top" of my calf. Never been through anything like this before, wouldn't wish this upon anyone.

    Thankyou for the reply,

    Brian

I am not saying you have ruptured it. the feeling you had may not equate to a failure at the suturing. However it does sound suspiciously like it.
